2013 Hot Rod Power Tour cities and schedule!

July 6, 2012  By Bill Olson

This isn’t exaclty late-breaking news but the folks at Hot Rod Magazine have released the cities and dates for the 2013 Power Tour. Looks like the Duster will have to be ready to go by May 31st, 2013 so we can be in Arlington by June 1st. Wish us luck.

Here’s the schedule:

Saturday June 1: Arlington, TX

Maybe the Rangers will be playing while the Tour is in town this time.

Sunday June 2: Texarkana, AR

I hear there’s beer in Texarkana… and they’re thirsty in Atlanta (short diversion but we’ll need a tractor trailer with kick ass air brushing).

Monday June 3: Little Rock, AR

We’re hoping The Tour stops at the Bill Clinton Presidential Library and Massage Parlor.

Tuesday June 4: Memphis, TN

Graceland!

Wednesday June 5: Birmingham (Hoover), AL

I don’t know anything about Birmingham.

Thursday June 6: Chattanooga, TN

Chattanooga is not far from Murphy, NC. Hopefully, we’ll spend the night there. Terrific town. Those folks know how to rock New Year’s Eve, by the way.

Friday June 7: Charlotte, NC

Hopefully the stench from the convention will have cleared by June.

To be honest, I was really hoping for a North by Northwest route terminating in wine country. Not that I care that much about wine, or anything, but I know the Bear Republic Brewery is up there somewhere. But whatever, I’m sure the route will be awesome. The Power Tour folks seem to know what they’re doing. One thing is for sure: The Duster will need A/C.

So, Jim fiddled with his iPad or something and came up with this map. I think it looks pretty good but that drive to Arlington via Wichita will be bo-ring! Whatever, we’ll make it quick.

Also, that drive through Illinois on the way home has to go as I think I have an arrest warrant festering in that miserable state. Regardless, it’s an awful place to drive. I would like to apologize for running over that mail box, though. Yeah, that was me in the late-nineties F-350 Crew Cab Dually with the clapped out ’65 Sport Fury on the trailer. But that is another story. Maybe we’ll hit Cape Girardeau, then make our way to Kansas City.

The release of the route and the dates of The Tour add a degree of urgency to this project. I already have the engine and transmission plus a whole bunch of wires and harnesses in hand. The K-frame, front suspension, brakes and rear suspension are on order. Once all that stuff shows up and the one hundred degree temperatures subside I’ll  start posting some more wrench-oriented posts.

Meanwhile, Jim will be lollygagging in his stylish mid-century home in Atlanta while I’m busting my ass in a hot warehouse in flyover country. Don’t worry, I will figure out a way to stick it to him.

Lollygagging? Sheesh.

My intellectual property is already all over that project.

And when you have to start hooking up those random wires, plumbing up the various hydraulics, routing linkages and noodling up ways to clearance without destroying, well…

Good luck, sucker! I’ll be there around noon on the 31st. Let’s get some fish at that… fish… place…
